AFTER THE HARVEST 26"x 21" oil on canvas $1,600
The country life is governed by the
rhythm of the seasons, each time of year offering its own colors
and ambiance. After a full summer of growth, the fields are ready
to be laid bare once again, yielding their bounty of nourishment.
What is unique about this scene is that the corn was harvested
by hand, leaving the stalks standing as the the colors fade from
greens to orange and umber. The soft sky and simple structure
accentuate this soft yet slightly disheveled field, leading the
eye comfortably around the canvas, returning again to the myriad
of stalks and leaves left to eventually return to the soil. Soft
light and simplicity, along with the complexity of the cycle
of life, makes this painting an intriguing glimpse of the transition
and the cycle of life.
